2026 Salary Range: $32.90-$44.03 Hourly $68,428.95 - $91,573.37 Annual
2027 Salary Range: $34.21-$45.77 Hourly $71,163.11 - $95,236.30 Annual

The City of Reading Ohio Civil Service Commission is testing to create an eligibility list for the full-time position of PATROL OFFICER with the City of Reading Police Department. Applications are available online at www.readingohio.org or at the City Municipal Offices Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the second floor of the municipal building located at 1000 Market St Reading Ohio 45215.

Applications must be filed by Friday July 17, 2026 by 4:00 p.m. Applications can be dropped off at the City Municipal Offices or e-mailed to Chief Daniel Flottemesch @ dflottemesch@readingpolice.org

A written exam will be given on Saturday July 25, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in Reading Council Chambers located at 1000 Market St. Reading Ohio 45215 on the 2nd floor of the municipal building. After the written examination, an eligibility list will be established. Those applicants scoring in the top 10 will be invited to an oral interview.

Additional credit to a passing score will be also given as follows:
Four-year degree 10%
Two-year degree 5%
OPOTA Certified 10%
Military Credit 20%
Two years or more prior police experience (full time or part time) 10%
Total maximum credit to be awarded is 20%
To receive the additional credit all documentation must be turned in with the application.

An excellent benefit package is provided with health insurance, where 90% of the annual deductible is paid by the city via an HSA. Dental and vision insurance where 85% of premium is paid by the city. A $25,000 life insurance policy is also included in the benefit package. Employees receive paid vacation days, (112 hours for years 1-8, 168 hours for years 9-15, 224 hours years 16-24, 272 hours for 25+ years), accrual of sick time of 112 hours per year, 2 personal days, 9.5 paid holidays paid at 3x hourly rate, yearly clothing allowance, bi-annual weapons & longevity check, and many other benefits. Officers currently work 12 hour shifts with every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.

Applicants must be 21 years of age at time of appointment; be a U.S. citizen; possess a valid driver's license; have a high school diploma or G.E.D.; and have no felony convictions.
